Fine Cutlery
Because fine cutlery can cost quite a bit, it is important
that a person is willing to protect his investment by maintaining the
cutlery. He can maintain the cutlery by doing the following:
• Hand wash – Fine cutlery should be washed by hand immediately
after it is used. Only mild soap and warm water should be used. Harsh
detergents could damage the fine cutlery.
• Wipe off – Not only should the fine cutlery be wiped
dry after it is cleaned, but any fingerprints that are left on it should
also be wiped off. The oil from a person’s skin could potentially
stain the fine cutlery. Some people will wear white latex gloves when
handling fine cutlery to avoid leaving fingerprints on the knives.
• Sharpen by hand – A person who owns fine cutlery must
take special precautions to make sure that the cutlery stays in good
shape. Sharpening by hand is one of these precautions. A person who
sharpens by hand is more likely to sharpen the knife precisely.
• Store separately – When fine cutlery is stored, it is
important to make sure that the cutlery is stored in such a way that
one item does not scratch another item. Some people will place the cutlery
in a block to avoid the scratching. Others, who want to make sure that
that the knives do not scratch each other, will use sleeves in which
the knives can be placed. Thanks to these sleeves, fine cutlery can
even be placed in the silverware drawer without the worry that they
will be scratched.
